Project Overview:
Developed to support a new way of shopping for cannabis — by effect rather than strain type — this product line introduced Spark (energy) and Rest (sleep) as the first SKUs in a broader color-coded system. The design needed to comply with Maine’s cannabis packaging laws, which restrict the use of fruit, people, and animals, and prohibit any imagery that may appeal to children — all while setting the tone for a refreshed, more colorful brand direction.

Execution

A system of vertical ECC logos was created to communicate product effects through shape and color, staying true to the brand’s Swiss Design roots. A flexible color range was developed to organize products by effect, setting the foundation for future lines.

Metallic foils were added to enhance shelf presence and reinforce the story: Spark featured gold foil on a sunburst, while Rest used silver foil to highlight a moon and stars cluster. Flavor names like “Sunrise Citrus” and “Moonlight Berry” helped set the mood without relying on literal fruit imagery — keeping the design adaptable and compliant.

A comprehensive launch campaign included in-store signage, digital assets, website features, and social content — all designed to reinforce the shift toward effects-based shopping and bring consistency across categories.

Impact

Spark and Rest quickly became top-performing products, with Rest establishing itself as a customer favorite. The success of the line validated the demand for an effect-based cannabis experience and laid the groundwork for future category expansion.
